By the time the soft spoken Dodgers manager sat behind the designated table for a 30 minute session with the baseball writers, a phalanx of microphones and television cameras were ready to capture every syllable and word that Mattingly uttered... As Mattingly walked into the Coronado Ballroom D entrance on late Tuesday afternoon, he was immediately greeted by a few members of the New York baseball media who warmly welcomed him with a comforting and all too familiar “Hi Donnie. Even with all of Don Mattingly’s vast experience as a borderline hall of fame ball player and seven years as a coach with the Yankees and Dodgers, nothing could have possibly prepared him for the 2011 season. ” While Rockies manager Jim Tracy was finishing up his informal meeting with various members of the media, Mattingly patiently waited in a corner near the doorway and exchanged pleasantries with the likes of Bill Madden and Sweeny Murti.
