Lots of heroes for the Devils – Ilya Kovalchuk was inspired, with two assists, and Marty Brodeur made some huge saves. But Zach Parise , who crashed the net relentlessly all night and took six shots on goal, earns the title in Game 2 because of his short-handed goal in the first period and his assist on the game-winner (if he didn’t actually score it himself).

Both goalies were excellent. Despite giving up twice as many goals as he did in Game 1, Brian Boucher was actually better than he was in the first game. He made 28 saves. But Brodeur made countless key saves at important times – the biggest coming on Ian Laperriere with 8:50 remaining in the third period with the score tied at 3-3 – to keep the Devils in the game and give them a chance. Brodeur had 26 saves in earning his 99th playoff victory.
