Drovers face final roundup
16.09.11
The Australian drover is the equivalent of the North American cowboy but is specifically a man (they were mostly, but not exclusively, men) who devoted his life to cattle drives -- coaxing huge herds of up to 1,600 cattle over long distances on... Walker, who writes for The Australian , went to Camooweal in remote northwest Queensland where the last of the "old-school drovers'' gathered to talk of days that are past. Jamie Walker did what Australian journalists used to do. He headed bush to bring a largely urban country a taste of the rural life from which it drew so much of its identity.
